ALEXANDER MCQUEEN - SAVAGE BEAUTY EXHIBITION

At the start of last month, I visited the Victoria & Albert Museum to see the Alexander McQueen exhibition. I have had my tickets booked since last July, so I was really excited to finally get to see it for myself. Alexander McQueen has always been my favourite designer, there is just something about his work that is so unique and imaginative. I studied Fashion Business at University, so his work has always been my first point of inspiration. Savage Beauty first opened at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2011, so I’m glad the British designers work finally came on show in London, it was definitely like a home-coming. I have seen some of his work first hand before at different exhibitions such as the Isabella Blow exhibition at Somerset House, but I was completely blown away by Savage Beauty.
We entered the exhibition to see a wall with just Lee Alexander McQueen’s face, the same image on the Met’s Savage Beauty book. We then walked through his early creations like his Saville Row tailoring right up to his final work. We then went into a room filled floor to ceiling with different garments such as Philip Treacy head pieces to shoes, to bags to dresses, with the famous 1999 spray-painted dress spinning in the centre. You just didn’t know where to look first as there were so many amazing pieces, we had to make our way to all four corners to make sure we had seen everything. Most of his work is focused around ideas about race, class, sexuality, religion and the environment and I love how he wanted women to be dressed. The only annoying thing about the exhibition was it was so jam packed full of people that it was hard to move, which was a shame as you couldn’t spend as much time as you’d like looking in one area. But obviously it was that popular as April was sold out of tickets. The exhibition included videos and images as well as his garments themselves. The exhibition finished on his last collection Spring/Summer 2010 'Plato's Atlantis' which in my opinion is his best and most inspiring work. I think that the exhibition was portrayed really well and I’m so glad I got to see it for myself. I would even be tempted to visit again as I was so overwhelmed by the amount of things to take in. I purchased the exhibition hardback book and limited edition Harper's Bazaar magazine. If you get the chance to visit I would definitely recommend a trip the exhibition is on till August, tickets are still available here.

BOND IN MOTION EXHIBITION LONDON FILM MUSEUM COVENT GARDEN

Last week it was my Birthday and on the Monday me and my parents went down to London for the day to see my sister who currently lives there. I had bought tickets for my Dad for Father’s Day to see the Bond in Motion exhibition at the London film museum in Covent Garden. Obviously my Dad was more excited about this than me, my mum and sister, but I think we all enjoyed the experience. The exhibition displays many of the vehicles that originally appeared in the film series, including a variety of aircraft, boats and motorcycles. We also saw several examples of the creative process, including concept art and storyboards – which I really liked. This exhibition is the largest display of its kind staged in London and open for the duration of 2014. We then spent the day In Covent Garden, going to Jamie Oliver’s Union Jack’s for Dinner. Before heading up Selfridges on Oxford Street and seeing The Bodyguard at Adelphi Theatre which my Sister got us tickets for, for our Birthday’s. I would highly recommend seeing this, Alexandra Burke was amazing!
Do you have any London recommendations?

CHANEL COVENT GARDEN - MOTHER'S DAY FLOWER STALL

On saturday I visited Covent Garden, in front of the Chanel boutique stood a beautiful flower stool, which featured some of the flowers essential to Chanel's signature fragrances; including May rose, Jasmine, Iris and Patchouli. The stool was set up for Mother's Day, fragrance experts were on hand to help you find the perfect present. Treatments were also available including, make-up consultations and manicures. Chanel were also giving away beautiful bouquets with every 100ml fragrance. Their pop-up boutique is now a permanent store at Covent Garden. Absolutely Stunning!
Hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day.

COVENT GARDEN LONDON - CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

During my trip to London before Christmas, I visited Covent Garden which had a beautiful Christmas Tree with giant red baubles and a massive red bow! which definitely got me in the Festive spirit. There was also a lovely teflon covered Reindeer in the Piazza which was 16ft tall and had its own giant Lyle and Scott scarf and hat. I also spotted the Chanel pop-up  fragrance and beauty boutique, which was so chic inside. Which are your favourite areas in London to visit during the festive period?

SELFRIDGES CHRISTMAS WINDOWS - VISUAL MERCHANDISING

Before Christmas, I visited London and one of the highlights for me was the Christmas windows on Oxford Street. Selfridges is probably my favourite Department Store, and their  Christmas window displays really won me over this year. My favourite part was the playful Anya Hindmarch wooden workshop window, (last photo) everything was moving either up and down or on a little train track and the floor was covered in Quality Street chocolates - it was all really clever! The theme behind the windows was 'An unusual Christmas' and you can watch the behind the scenes video of how they put it all together here and the making of the Anya Hindmarch window here. I also really enjoyed the Children In Need Pudsey Bear window and the Sefridges building made to look like a giant Gingerbread Store - all so cute! What was your favourite Christmas window display? Hope you all had a great Christmas.
